Why Should the Fire Die
~Nickel Creek (Artist)

Usually dispatched within 24 hours
Sugar Hill (Audio CD) - August 15, 2005 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Why Should the Fire Die? is Nickel Creek's first album without
Alison Krauss in the producer's chair, and on it, the trio's
genre-expanding acoustic music has shifted even farther away from its
bluegrass origins. The opening "When in Rome" perfectly encapsulates the
aggressive approach the band... |

Usually dispatched within 24 hours
Arista (Audio CD) - August 22, 2005 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Brad Paisley's previous release, Mud on the Tires, was the sort
of landmark album nearly every artist has difficulty topping. Not so
this time. On Time Well Wasted, Paisley's voice--never
overwhelmed by overmixed instruments (a problem dogging many current
vocalists)--remains keenly focused. There's... |

Let There Be Rockgrass
~Hayseed Dixie (Artist)
|
Usually dispatched within 24 hours
Cooking Vinyl (Audio CD) - August 2, 2004 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Hayseed Dixie meld the two most frequently and easily mocked forms of
popular music metal and country. Let There Be Rockgrass is
essentially an anthology of metal arranged for the banjo, fiddle,
acoustic guitar and upright bass, sung with accents straight out of
Deliverance.
As might be surmised from... |

Lonely Runs Both Ways

Rounder (Audio CD) - November 15, 2004 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Nobody makes sombre sound more exquisite than Alison Krauss. She's come
an awfully long way from her days as a teenage fiddle prodigy, as her
glamour gown on this CD's cover suggests and the bittersweet maturity of
the music confirms. Krauss exchanges her bluegrass fiddle for the
chamber strains of... |

Drowned in Sound (Audio CD) - April 4, 2005 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Martha Wainwright comes from a family that some would call "musical
royalty". She is the daughter of Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright
III, and sister of Rufus Wainwright, yet she writes and sings with a
style completely her own. After several tours as opener and band-mate
for Rufus, and... |

The Best of Johnny Cash
~Johnny Cash (Artist)
|
Usually dispatched within 24 hours
Spectrum (Audio CD) - April 6, 1998 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Every home should have a Johnny Cash compilation. Cash is a genuine
titan of popular music, whose finest work should be as venerated as
anything by Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, David Bowie or Brian
Wilson, and this collection does as good a job of beginning to explain
why as any. The virtue... |

A Hot Piece of Grass

Usually dispatched within 24 hours
Cooking Vinyl (Audio CD) - June 27, 2005 |
Amazon.co.uk Review
Hayseed Dixie have carved themselves a unique niche in music,
playing bluegrass covers of classic rock tunes. Having branched out from
the music of AC/DC, from whom they took their initial inspiration (as
well as their name), A Hot Piece of Grass finds the hillbilly
quartet "reinterpreting" songs by... |

Amazon.co.uk Review
On first thought, the idea of the Man in Black recording such covers as
"Bridge over Troubled Water", "Danny Boy" and "The First Time Ever I Saw
Your Face" might seem odd, even for an artist who's been able to put his
personal stamp on just about everything. But The Man Comes Around,
which also... |

Description
There are several Johnny Cash boxes available, but The Legend--spanning

and, to a lesser degree, his beginnings at Sun--probably belongs at the
top of the list. Cash's greatest strengths are dramatized on these four,

Amazon.co.uk Review
Less than two years after her mentor Gram Parson's death, Emmylou Harris

inaugurated a suite of four mid-'70s albums and a surprising number of
hits: her sound was clearly traditional, but also tastefully up-to-date
with folk-rock and... |

Joel and Ethan Coen have long established themselves as film stylists

An excellent compilation despite an obvious omission
No Johnny Cash compilation can ever include everything but this

most productive period that yielded classic songs such as Hey porter, I
walk the line, Big river, Don't take your guns to town, Five feet high
and rising, I still... |

Amazon.co.uk Review
What's stranger: Willie Nelson singing lilting reggae melodies, or a
Jamaican chestnut like "The Harder They Fall" set to an acoustic country
arrangement, complete with Dobro? Given Nelson's well-publicised taste
for ganja, it's not surprising he's also fond of the island's major
musical export. The... |

Amazon.co.uk Review
Recorded in April, 2002 in Louisville, Kentucky, Alison Krauss +
Union Station Live is, surprisingly, the sweet-voiced fiddler's

radio-friendly, popular contemporary bluegrass: Krauss' dreamy voice,
the most gorgeous in all... |

An Inspiring Collection
This man's voice is inspiring, I have never listened to music that has
had such an emotional effect on me as this. The first time I listed to
this cd and heard Annie's Song (which I have learnt he wrote about his
first wife), I literally stopped what I was doing just to listen. I love
it. |

This is a brilliant cd. It's all Toby, wonderful songs, the lyrics are
wonderful, you get a laugh, there are the odd sad ones, but all in all
he has surpassed himself on this album. What is it about this man that
makes his songs so enjoyable to listen to time and time again? Seriously

A good introduction to Dolly's music
To anybody who already owns a compilation of Dolly's music for RCA, the
track listing here has a familiar look to it with few exceptions. The
exceptions are Please don't stop loving me, a sensational duet with
Porter Wagoner not normally included on Dolly's solo compilations, To
know him is to love... |
